ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is seeking to deepen its trade and economic relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), according to the Press Information Department statement issued in Islamabad on Friday.
According to the statement, the strengthening of trade links was underscored during a meeting between Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, and Andrey Slepnev, Member of the Board and Minister in charge of Trade of the EAEU, at the Secretariat of the EAEU in Moscow.
The EAEU, established in 2015, is a regional economic bloc comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, aimed at promoting free movement of goods, services, capital, and labour among its members.
It also seeks to harmonise trade policies, remove barriers, and foster regional economic integration, making it a key partner for countries looking to expand trade and investment opportunities in Eurasia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tirmizi emphasised Pakistan’s strategic interest in strengthening trade cooperation with EAEU member states across sectors, including trade, investment, connectivity, and business-to-business exchanges.
He highlighted Pakistan’s potential as a hub for transit trade and regional connectivity, besides the significance of Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with Armenia as a step toward enhanced ties with the EAEU.
Both sides discussed future strategies to deepen bilateral relations and expressed readiness to establish mechanisms that could facilitate stronger economic engagement between Pakistan and the EAEU.
The discussions aimed to boost mutual trade, fostering investment opportunities, and promoting collaboration in connectivity projects.
