ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed 29 terrorists during a well-planned intelligence-based ground operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, followed by precision strikes in the border region targeting hideouts and safe havens of terrorists belonging to the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist groups.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, in a statement, said on Monday that the counterterrorism operations were conducted in the aftermath of recent terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces and at a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Camp in Karachi.
“In the aftermath of recent multiple terrorist incidents inside Pakistan against the innocent people of Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Balochistan and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Camp, Karachi, a well planned intelligence based ground operation was carried out by security forces along Pakistan-Afghan border followed by calibrated Strikes in the border region against the hideouts and safe havens of terrorists belonging to Jamaat ul Ahrar and Fitna al khwarij, killing twenty nine khwarij,” the Information Minister said.
“Fitna al-Khawarij” is the state term referring to the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while “khwarij” is used to refer to terrorists.
Tarar said that on 28 June, security forces conducted an intelligence-based ground operation against a group of terrorists near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As a result of precise and skilful engagement, high-value terrorist commander Khan Farosh aka Zabal, along with three terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Jamaat-ul-Ahrar were killed while several other terrorists were injured, the Information Minister said.

Information Minister Tarar said that in continuation of the large-scale counterterrorism Operation Ghazb Lil Haq, based on credible intelligence, precise targeting of terrorist camps and hideouts belonging to the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have also been carried out on the night of 28/29 June, in the border region of Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
“Three targets in Paktia, Paktika and Kunar were destroyed during precision strikes killing twenty-five terrorists. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition stored at these Marakiz and hideouts were also destroyed,” Tarar said.
The Information Minister said that Pakistan has always strived for maintaining peace and stability in the region, but at the same time, “shall not compromise on the safety and security of our citizens, which remains our top priority”.
“Our relentless Counter Terrorism campaign under vision “Azm e Istehkam” (as approved by Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” Tarar said.
The counterterrorism operations were carried out a day after Pakistan’s security forces thwarted a terrorist attack on a Pakistan Rangers camp in Karachi, killing three terrorists and arresting an Afghan terrorist during their attempt to attack the camp.
According to the military’s media wing, the attack took place on the night of June 27 when India-backed terrorists struck the main entrance of a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp using explosives before attempting to force their way inside the facility.
The assault was repelled by Rangers personnel guarding the installation, preventing the attackers from breaching the camp’s perimeter.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attackers belonged to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, an Indian proxy group.
The Jamaat-ul-Ahrar terrorist group is based in Afghanistan and sponsored by India.
The military said three terrorists were killed during the exchange of fire, while a fourth terrorist, identified as an Afghan national, was captured alive in an injured condition.
Afghan Taliban regime’s support for terrorist groups
The arrested terrorist has revealed that he and his accomplices were trained in Afghanistan and sent to Pakistan by the terrorist group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar to carry out the terrorist attack.
The arrested terrorist, who identified himself as Usman Ali, said he entered Pakistan from Afghanistan seven days before the attack along with three other terrorists. He revealed that all operational arrangements for the attack were made in Afghanistan before the group of terrorists travelled to Karachi.
“My name is Usman Ali and I came from the Jalalabad area of Afghanistan,” the arrested terrorist revealed in his confessional statement.
He said that three other terrorists — Abdul Hadi, Janan and Umar Farooq — accompanied him to Karachi.
“Terrorist Abdul Hadi, who came with me, has been killed,” arrested terrorist Usman said, adding, “terrorist Janan had thrown the bomb at the Pakistan Rangers camp.”
According to the arrested terrorist, he, along with his accomplices, stayed at an under-construction building after entering Pakistan. “We were kept in an under-construction building.”
“We entered Pakistan seven days ago and stayed with Abdul Hadi, who was a resident of Bajaur,” he said. “The weapons used in the attack were brought by Abdul Hadi from Waziristan.”
The arrested terrorist said he was wounded while attempting to flee. “I was shot while fleeing to the other side and fell on the spot,” he said.
“I belong to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, whose commander in Afghanistan is named Ahrar Maulvi,” he said.
He revealed that all the terrorists of the terrorist group had received training in Afghanistan.
“All of us were trained in Afghanistan. I was only given a jacket — we prepare the suicide vests ourselves,” he revealed.
“We all prepare suicide vests ourselves — we were trained in Afghanistan beforehand.”
He further revealed that the training was provided by a terrorist identified as Umar Qari.
“The training for preparing suicide vests and other activities in Afghanistan was provided by Umar Qari,” he said.
“All arrangements were made from Afghanistan before we came to Karachi. Abdul Hadi knew everything here because he had been here before,” he said.
