Pakistan President and Premier Reiterate Commitment to Eradicate Terrorism

Trilateral agreement in Makkah aims to strengthen strategic partnership, regional peace, and security of muslim ummah.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday to brief the nation’s leadership on the landmark trilateral defence agreement recently reached among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye in Makkah.

The Prime Minister felicitated the President on the occasion of Independence Day before providing a detailed overview of the historic agreement, which marks a new chapter in defence collaboration, regional stability, and collective security for the Muslim Ummah. President Zardari expressed his best wishes for the pact’s effective implementation, emphasising its potential to promote peace, stability, and security across the region.

Strategic partnership takes shape

President Zardari lauded the relentless efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in transforming the longstanding fraternal ties among the three nations into a stronger, more institutionalised strategic partnership.

President underscored that the agreement reflects Pakistan’s growing diplomatic stature and its commitment to playing a pivotal role in fostering regional harmony.

The meeting also delved into Pakistan’s internal and external security landscape, including ongoing military operations against terrorist groups, specifically Fitna-al-Hindustan and Fitna-al-Khawarij.

President and Prime Minister paid glowing tribute to the professional capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces and law-enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism, reaffirming the nation’s unwavering resolve to completely eliminate the menace from the country.

Economic relief and diplomatic gains

On the economic front, President Zardari stressed the urgent need for effective measures to provide relief to citizens facing financial difficulties amid the prevailing regional situation.

He called for ensuring the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities at reasonable prices, highlighting the government’s responsibility to safeguard the welfare of the people.
