ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to construct a cricket stadium in Saudi Arabia that could potentially host Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the future.

The PCB aims to promote cricket in Saudi Arabia, where a large population of Pakistani and other Asian expatriates have a strong interest in the sport. The Saudi government is actively encouraging sports activities within the kingdom and is taking various initiatives in this regard.

Formal proposal

The PCB has formally expressed its interest in building a cricket stadium in Jeddah. In a recent Board of Governors meeting, approval was granted to explore this opportunity in collaboration with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation.

Site selection

PCB officials indicate that various venues in Saudi Arabia are currently being reviewed to select a suitable location for the stadium. However, the project remains in its early stages. If negotiations with local authorities are successful, a formal agreement will be signed, after which construction work will begin.

Fast-track timeline

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is known for his swift decision-making and speed. If progress continues at this pace, the stadium could be completed within a year of signing the contract. Officials envision a venue equipped with floodlights and sufficient seating capacity for spectators.

Future prospects

In the future, the stadium could host PSL matches and other Pakistan cricket fixtures in Jeddah. This initiative would not only provide fans in Saudi Arabia the opportunity to watch live cricket but also help young cricketers develop their skills and advance their careers.
