ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly refuted claims that it has cancelled the 4,500-megawatt power-generation component of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, stating that these reports are false and misleading.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs has said the hydropower component remains part of the national priority project.

The ministry said Diamer-Bhasha remains a national priority, combining water storage with hydropower generation, and that planning for the power facilities is continuing with WAPDA and relevant ministries.
The government has not cancelled the power facilities, and planning continues with WAPDA and relevant ministries. The public is advised to rely on official government updates, while the government remains fully committed to completing Diamer-Bhasha Dam, including its hydropower facilities, to strengthen Pakistan’s water and energy security.
