QUETTA: Pakistan’s security forces foiled a planned suicide bombing plot in Balochistan after rescuing two girls who were recruited by the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an Indian proxy, during an intelligence-based operation.
During a press conference held in Quetta, Balochistan Interior Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau presented 16-year-old Zainab and her 12-year-old cousin, Fatima, stating they were recovered safely during a precise, intelligence-based operation.
The minister highlighted the ongoing efforts of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies, noting that while the public often questions security measures when an attack occurs, authorities quietly prevent dozens of similar plots behind the scenes.
He said that interrogation of the two girls exposed a tragic sequence of events and coercion. Zainab shared that her husband, Saif, was targeted and killed by a local BLA commander after refusing to work for the group.

She said the BLA, also referred to by state authorities as Fitna al-Hindustan, was responsible for the deaths of 8 to 10 other members of her family.
Following Saif’s murder, the commander persistently contacted Zainab, falsely framing state institutions for her husband’s death to emotionally manipulate her into seeking revenge. Fatima, whose father was also killed in a BLA attack, was drawn into the network due to her close proximity to Zainab.
False narratives
Swayed by grief and false narratives, both girls traveled to a covert location where they were held for 40 days. During their captivity, they were subjected to physical violence by the terrorists, and the local commander made inappropriate advances toward Zainab.
Whenever the girls requested to meet the commander directly, they were told he was traveling in a neighbouring country and that a meeting would occur upon his return.
BLA a foreign proxy
Officials emphasised that the BLA operates as a proxy for foreign interests, particularly supported through New Delhi, with its leadership hiding in safe havens across Kabul, Kandahar, and Europe while exploiting vulnerable local families.
The attempt to recruit young children as suicide bombers directly violates Islamic principles and traditional Baloch cultural values, which historically prioritise the protection of women and minors.

The plot came to an end when security forces acted on intelligence while the girls were being transferred between hidden locations.
Due to their tender age and the manipulative circumstances of their involvement, the Pakistan government chose not to pursue strict legal action.
Instead, authorities facilitated a reunion with their families, offering them a chance to return to normal life and raise awareness in their communities about the reality of these terrorist networks. Both Zainab and Fatima expressed their gratitude to the security forces for saving their lives and appealed for a general pardon from the government and the nation.
