NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed 17 times in East Delhi after an altercation with two men, with police arresting one suspect and searching for another.
The victim, identified as Vansh Dedha, was attacked near Gyan Vatika School in the Mandawali area on Thursday evening, September 10. Police received a call about the stabbing at around 7:54 pm and took Dedha to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A medical examination found 17 stab injuries on Dedha’s body, according to police.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicated that Keshav Kumar, 22, and another man chased Dedha after an altercation before attacking him with a sharp-edged weapon and fleeing the scene.

Police have arrested Kumar and identified the second alleged attacker. They have also recovered the alleged knife, clothing worn by the accused, and the motorcycle used in the attack.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and analysing technical evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the killing. A murder case has been registered at Mandawali police station.

Police are also investigating a possible personal dispute as the motive. Initial reports suggested that Kumar may have suspected Dedha of having a relationship with a female relative. However, investigators have not yet established that allegation as the definitive reason for the attack.
Dedha’s family said he had left his studies after completing Class 12 and was working to support his mother, younger brother and three sisters. His father had died about 11 years ago, according to the family.
