Houthis Must Stop Reckless and Violent Acts Against Saudi Arabia: European Commission President

BRUSSELS: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said that Houthis must stop their reckless and violent acts, following attacks on Riyadh airport.

“Houthis have once again struck Riyadh’s airport, taking three innocent lives,” she said in a post on X.

The European Union stands in full solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia and Gulf partners, von der Leyen said.

“My thoughts are with the families of the victims,” she said.

Two attacks target Saudia aircraft

Earlier, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced that on October 8, 2026, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was targeted by two attacks.

The first attack targeted the airport’s facilities, while the second targeted a Saudia aircraft. Emergency response teams and the relevant authorities responded immediately in accordance with established protocols and the applicable emergency response plans.

The attacks resulted in the martyrdom of three Saudi citizens and injuries to a number of Saudi citizens and residents of various nationalities, ranging from minor to critical. All injured individuals were transported immediately to hospital for appropriate medical care. The attacks also caused some property damage.

GACA continues to work, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to complete the damage assessment, verify the safety of the facilities, and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and personnel and maintain the security and safety of the Kingdom’s civil aviation system.

GACA also confirms that airport operations have resumed and air traffic has returned to normal.

Coalition forces destroy Mouthi missile launchers 

Meanwhile, the official spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, on Friday said the coalition forces have destroyed three missile launchers used by the Houthis to threaten regional security.

“We destroyed 3 rocket launch platforms used by the Houthis to threaten regional security,” he said in a post on X.

“Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian facilities will be met with resolve,” Al-Maliki added.
