KARACHI: Funeral prayers were offered on Sunday for the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) personnel who were martyred while foiling a terrorist attack in Karachi.
Senior civil and military leaders, including Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and DG Rangers (Sindh) Major General Muhammad Shamraiz, attended the funeral prayers and paid tribute to the martyred personnel’s sacrifice.
The Rangers personnel embraced martyrdom while thwarting a cowardly terrorist attack carried out by the India-backed proxy group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar. The funeral was also attended by the families of the martyrs and a large number of senior civil and military officials.
The participants paid tribute to the martyrs’ sacrifices and expressed their heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the terrorist attack was deeply tragic and that those responsible would be held accountable.
“Wherever the perpetrators of terrorism may be, the security forces will pursue them and bring them to justice,” Naqvi said.
Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi strongly condemned the terrorist attack. “We strongly condemn terrorism and will continue our efforts to eradicate it from the country,” Governor Hashmi said.
“We will never tolerate India-sponsored terrorism and will uproot terrorism from its roots,” the Sindh Governor resolved.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed the resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with the security forces for the complete elimination of terrorism from the country.
“The brave Rangers personnel laid down their lives while thwarting the nefarious designs of the terrorists. We salute their sacrifice. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the security forces for the complete elimination of terrorism from the country,” the Chief Minister said.
Following the funeral prayers, the bodies of the martyred soldiers were transported to their native towns, where they will be laid to rest with full military honours.
After the funeral prayers, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, accompanied by the Sindh Governor, also visited the site of the terrorist attack.
Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to the complete eradication of terrorism, officials said.
Three personnel of the Pakistan Rangers were martyred after terrorists attacked a Rangers camp in Karachi, with security forces killing three Indian-backed terrorists and capturing another during a counterterrorism operation.
According to the military’s media wing, the attack took place on the night of June 27 when India-backed terrorists struck the main entrance of a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp using explosives before attempting to force their way inside the facility.
The assault was repelled by Rangers personnel guarding the installation, preventing the terrorists from breaching the camp’s perimeter.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attackers belonged to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, an Indian proxy group.
The military said three terrorists were killed during the exchange of fire, while a fourth suspect, identified as an Afghan national, was captured alive in an injured condition.
During the operation, three Rangers personnel were killed, and four others sustained injuries.
Following the attack, security forces launched a sanitisation operation in and around the area to ensure that no additional militants remained in the vicinity.
The ISPR said Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue nationwide counterterrorism operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign, which was launched to intensify action against militant networks operating across the country.
The military added that the campaign would continue “at full pace” to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.
