PARIS: A delegation of French doctors who has just arrived in Paris from Gaza on Tuesday lamented at the health and humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
The doctors said they had encountered continued attacks by Israel in the area.
After spending days in Rafah, the doctors moved to the European Hospital in Khan Younis, the only hospital in service in southern Gaza.
The Palmed Association of Palestinian Doctors in Europe sent the first medical mission to Gaza led by Raphael Petit, a former military doctor from January 22 to February 6.
Anesthesiologist Bouchakour Chems Eddine told media that the situation in Gaza is chaotic, and many children are wounded. He added many patients stayed inside the hospital as they have no other place to go.
He said they were able to administer anesthesia but there is shortage of morphine.
Catastrophic conditions in Gaza
Doctors termed the catastrophic conditions in Gaza in light of insufficient aid, shortage of water, food, and medicine, and diseases affecting both the old and young.
Emergency and resuscitation doctor Khaled Ben Boutrif said they were receiving causalities and citizens suffering from injuries.
He said the European Hospital, the only hospital still in service becomes almost paralyzed because it shelters many displaced people.
According to the UN, at least 300 health workers have been killed in Gaza since October 7, and at least 30 hospitals and 150 other medical facilities have been out of service.
In an update on Tuesday, the Gaza Strip’s Health Ministry said at least 27,585 Palestinians, mostly women, and children, had been confirmed killed in Israel’s ground and aerial strikes, with thousands more feared buried under vast tracts of rubble across the densely populated besieged enclave.
Over 107 people had been killed in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said.
