NEW DELHI: The Indian Congress Party has raised concerns over the escalating violence in Manipur, pointing out the threat it poses to the Naga community. Following the recent deaths of two individuals in Manipur, the Congress criticized the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused the central and state governments of inaction.

Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala remarked that the violence in Manipur continues unabated and unchecked, with no clear response from the Prime Minister or Home Minister Amit Shah, and alleged complicity of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Indian Govt Fails to Control Manipur Violence

Surjewala further stated that the Indian government has failed to address the ongoing conflict or bridge the divide between communities in Manipur. He expressed particular concern over the recent acts of violence, highlighting the potential to draw the Naga community into the existing conflict.

The Congress leader also highlighted the alarming figures related to the violence in Manipur, including approximately 130 deaths, 1,000 injuries, and over 70,000 displaced individuals. Surjewala emphasized the need for immediate action by Prime Minister Modi before the situation worsens.

The latest incidents of violence in Manipur occurred amid ethnic clashes that erupted on May 3, resulting in numerous casualties and forcing thousands of people to seek refuge in relief camps.

The Congress party has demanded that the Prime Minister break his silence on the matter and take concrete steps to address the violence. They have also called for the removal of the Chief Minister. Additionally, the Congress intends to raise the issue of the Manipur violence during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament and seek clarification from the Prime Minister regarding the actions taken to control the situation thus far.
