ISLAMABAD: A 2-member delegation comprising chairman of National Disaster Management Authority Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik and Member Disaster Risk Reduction Idrees Mehsud attended the Partnership Days Event of Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery on Wednesday on the invitation of the World Bank in Washington.
Chairman Malik as a panelist underlined the requirements for making Pakistan a resilient state, NDMA said in a statement.
The Chairman said developing economies critically require innovative DRR approaches based on local necessities and challenges.
He unveiled the solution for a remodeled NDMA that would be able to deal with upcoming challenges owing to many hazards, especially climate change induced.
He stressed the need for collaboration to incorporate community-centric Artificial Intelligence- based and technology-driven early warning capabilities to predict disasters, which also could be an important solution to minimize time and again economic assistance by donors in affected regions.
The Chairman also suggested that the World Bank’s financial strategy developments for DRR and other policies must include shared DRR instruments and spontaneity.
He added that Pakistan has successfully demonstrated default resilience and adaptation, which needs support in the value addition of protocols.
NDMA delegation’s meetings
Moreover, the delegation also held sessions with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State at the South and Central Asian Affairs Bureau at the US State Department and Deputy Assistant to the Administrator in HQs in USAID Marcia Wong.
During meetings, the delegation discussed the key need to collate with academia and DM responders of vulnerable nations with global universities to further improve efficiency.
