BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to visit to Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin next week, Reuters reported on Monday. Plans for a trip come as Beijing has been offering to broker peace in Ukraine’s war, a bid that has been met with doubt in the West given Beijing’s diplomatic support for Moscow.

Russian Tass news agency reported on January, 30 that Russian Putin had extended an invitation to President Xi to visit Moscow in the spring. The Wall Street Journal also reported in February that a trip to Moscow could take place in April or in May.
China’s ministry of foreign affairs did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the possibility of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia and Moscow also declined to comment over the matter. Similarly, no other details are immediately available about the possible visit of President Xi to Moscow.
In February, Russian President Putin hosted China’s top diplomat Wang Yi on a trip to Moscow and hinted that President Xi would also visit to Russia.
Russia and China struck a “no limits” corporation in February of 2022, when the Russian President was visiting China for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, weeks before Moscow invaded Kyiv, and the two countries have continued to repeat the strength of their relations. President Xi has held 39 meeting with Putin since becoming president of China.
