Sri Lanka U19 Women Arrive In Faisalabad For T20 Tri-Series

FAISALABAD: Sri Lanka’s women’s Under-19 cricket team has arrived in Faisalabad to participate in a three-team T20I tri-series against hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh, with the tournament set to begin on October 2.

The Sri Lankan squad reached Faisalabad on September 28, while Bangladesh’s team will arrive a day later. The visiting teams will train at Iqbal Stadium on September 29, 30 and October 1 alongside the Pakistan team ahead of the opening match.

Pakistan will host the two visiting sides in the 10-match tri-series, with all fixtures, including the final, scheduled at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium from October 2 to 16.

The tournament will be played in a triple round-robin format, meaning each team will play six league matches. The top two sides at the end of the league stage will qualify for the final on October 16.

The series will provide the three teams with valuable international T20 match practice ahead of the ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup and ICC Women’s U19 World Cup.

The tournament will also mark the first international women’s cricket event at Iqbal Stadium, which recently returned to the international calendar after a 17-year gap when it hosted a three-match ODI series between Pakistan and South Africa’s men’s teams.

Pakistan have named a 20-member squad for the tri-series, led by Fizza Fiaz. Qamrosh Farhan, Malaika Suhani, Pakeeza Shabbir and Afsheen Khan have received maiden call-ups.

Only 15 players will be selected for each match, while the remaining five will remain with the squad and be considered on a rotational basis.
