Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan Discuss Cooperation in Diverse Fields

ISLAMABAD: President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov in Bishkek on Friday. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that Uzbek-Kyrgyz cooperation has been developing fruitfully over the last two years. The talks focused on the development of bilateral trade, political, economic, investment, transport, communication, water, energy, and regional cooperation.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored that the bilateral trade volume has raised sevenfold in the recent past.

The local media report said that the matters of implementing new joint investment projects in textile, industrial, energy, mining, and agricultural sectors were considered during the meeting between the two important presidents of Central Asian states.

The two sides also discussed the cooperation in regional structures, international firms, the issues of security and stability in Central Asia, and effective counter-action against contemporary challenges.

During the delegation-level talks, special attention was given to the development of trade cooperation. The meeting noted that last year the trade revenue reached $1.3 billion. More than 300 joint ventures were generated. Industrial cooperation projects are being executed in various sectors of the economy.

During the visit, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Sadyr Zhaparov also inked a Declaration that brings bilateral ties to a new level of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.

On the occasion, cooperation agreements were also inked between ministries and agencies in energy, agriculture, customs, development of priority areas of industry, scientific research, and youth support.

Earlier, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, along with his wife, arrived in Bishkek on an official visit on Friday.
