ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have foiled another attempted infiltration by Afghanistan-based terrorists along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, delivering a strong retaliatory response after Afghan Taliban fighters opened fire on Pakistani troops in the Shaluzan sector of Kurram district.
According to Pakistan’s security sources, the elimination of two Afghan-based ISKP operatives in Bajaur highlights the cross-border security threat emanating from terrorist networks operating in Afghanistan. The killing of Afghan nationals signifies that ISKP’s operational roots lie beyond Pakistan’s borders, security sources said.
The counterterrorism operation should be viewed in the context of Pakistan’s actions against ISKP that have already yielded global acknowledgement. Pakistan’s anti-terrorism operations reflect Islamabad’s unwavering resolve to eliminate all terrorist threats, irrespective of their origin and affiliation, security sources said.
The continued emergence of Afghan-based terrorist operatives in attacks against Pakistan demands coordinated international engagement, effective counterterrorism measures and concrete action against terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan.
The global inaction risks allowing these terrorist networks to expand their reach and further destabilise the region, security sources said.
Pakistan Crushes Afghan Taliban Infiltration Bid
On Thursday night, Pakistani security forces foiled an attempted infiltration by terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Shaluzan sector.
According to security sources, the Afghanistan-based terrorists attempted to cross into Pakistani territory on Thursday. Pakistani troops detected the movement and promptly engaged the infiltrators, successfully preventing them from entering the country.

Pakistani forces employed heavy weapons against the positions from which the firing originated, inflicting substantial damage on several Afghan Taliban border posts.
The attempted infiltration was successfully thwarted, while the retaliatory action demonstrated the readiness and operational capability of Pakistani security forces to defend the country’s territorial integrity, the sources said.
The latest engagement is part of a series of increasingly frequent confrontations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, with Islamabad providing irrefutable evidence of the Afghan Taliban regime allowing terrorist groups to use Afghan territory as a launching pad for attacks inside Pakistan.
The Afghan Taliban regime has failed to honour its counterterrorism commitments and continues to provide support, shelter and operational space to Fitna al-Khawarij, the name officially used by the Pakistani state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Islamabad has repeatedly warned Kabul that continued cross-border terrorist infiltration, terrorist activities and attacks on Pakistani border positions will invite a decisive response.
Afghan Taliban’s Repeated Provocations
The latest incident is not an isolated unprovoked aggression along the international border.
On November 1, Pakistani security forces responded to firing from Afghan border posts near Angoor Adda in Lower South Waziristan, targeting multiple Afghan Taliban posts, mortar positions and defensive installations.
According to the Lower South Waziristan deputy commissioner, the retaliatory action forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon several positions and flee.
The November 1 confrontation followed an October 27 incident in which the Taliban’s cross-border firing and mortar shelling struck civilian areas in Angoor Adda, killing one local resident and injuring five members of the same family. Several shops in the border bazaar were also damaged. The incident triggered anger among local residents.
Earlier, on October 10, Pakistani security forces foiled another attempted infiltration of terrorists in Kurram district.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Afghan Taliban border posts opened fire in support of the infiltrating terrorists. The ensuing exchange resulted in the deaths of 12 terrorists and Afghan Taliban personnel.
TTP Safe Havens in Afghanistan
Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concern over the presence and activities of the banned TTP terrorist group in Afghanistan.
Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban regime is providing safe havens to the banned terrorist organisation, allowing its leadership and terrorists to plan, organise and launch attacks against Pakistani security forces and civilians.
The TTP, a terrorist organisation, has intensified its attacks against Pakistani security forces, police installations and civilians in recent years.
Islamabad maintains that the Afghan Taliban’s return to power in August 2021 provided the TTP with greater operational space across the border, contributing to a renewed wave of terrorism in Pakistan.
The Pakistani government has repeatedly called upon the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent Afghanistan’s territory from being used by terrorist groups for terrorist activities against neighbouring countries.
