VIENNA: Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space during its participation in the 69th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, held in Vienna from June 10 to 18.
The Saudi delegation was represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission and the Saudi Space Agency, reflecting the Kingdom’s growing engagement in international space cooperation.
Focus on sustainability
The Kingdom’s participation highlighted its support for strengthening global partnerships and using space technologies for development, communications and environmental sustainability.
The session reviewed several key issues, including the long-term sustainability of outer space activities, implementation of the Space2030 Agenda, the future role of the committee and its working methods.
Participants also discussed reports from the committee’s scientific and technical subcommittee and legal subcommittee.
Saudi regulatory progress
The Saudi delegation presented the Kingdom’s contributions to the space sector, including legislative and regulatory efforts designed to support a safe, organised and sustainable space environment.
These efforts include the Space Law project, its implementing regulations and regulatory documents governing space-related activities in Saudi Arabia.
The delegation also presented a proposal to enhance the committee’s working mechanisms and improve its overall efficiency.
Officials said Saudi Arabia’s participation reflects its commitment to responsible space development and constructive international cooperation.
