ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has hoped that the peace deal between Iran and the United States could be finalised soon.

He expressed the remarks during a telephone conversation with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, a PM house’s media wing said in a statement

“During their warm and cordial conversation that lasted around thirty minutes, the two leaders exchanged Eid greetings and conveyed best wishes to each other, the peoples of their two countries as well as the Muslim Ummah on this joyous occasion,” it said.

The Iranian President expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for Pakistan’s significant role in efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.

He also welcomed the support and involvement of other regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye, in advancing peace initiatives.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in turn, reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people over the loss of precious lives during the ongoing crisis.

He thanked the Iranian President for his kind remarks and said that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had made tireless efforts to support regional peace and stability through continuous engagement and diplomacy.

“He hoped that the peace deal could be finalised soon and would be done with dignity and honor for the Iranian nation. This would help unlock the true economic potential of Iran and benefit the entire region,” the statement said.

The Prime Minister stated that as a brotherly and neighboring country, Pakistan would always stand by Iran and that a great future lay ahead for both countries, once peace was restored in the region.

“The two leaders agreed to remain in close coordination with each other,” it said.

On April 8, Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between the US and Iran and intensified mediation efforts to permanently end the conflict through negotiations.

Last month, Pakistan hosted direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.

The Islamabad Talks between the US and Iran concluded without reaching a final agreement; however, they paved the way for diplomacy to permanently end the conflict.
