QUETTA: Pakistan’s Balochistan province is moving towards a new phase of digital governance and technology-driven administrative reforms, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said on Sunday while outlining the government’s efforts to modernise public systems and improve transparency.

In a message issued on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Bugti said the provincial government had launched Balochistan’s first Digital Media Policy 2026, calling it a significant step towards modern communication and governance reforms.

The chief minister said the government was introducing advanced digital mechanisms aimed at strengthening transparency, merit and institutional efficiency across the province’s administrative structure.

Among the reforms highlighted by Bugti was an artificial intelligence-based recruitment system designed to improve fairness and efficiency in public-sector hiring processes.

Reducing administrative irregularities

He said the AI-backed system would help ensure merit-based recruitment while reducing administrative irregularities and enhancing governance standards.

Bugti described technology and innovation as key tools for improving public administration and institutional performance in Pakistan’s largest province.

According to the chief minister, the Digital Media Policy 2026 forms part of a broader strategy to modernise official communication systems and support more transparent governance practices.

He further said the provincial administration was committed to integrating digital tools into governance structures to improve service delivery and institutional accountability.

While the statement did not provide operational details regarding the implementation timeline of the policy or the AI recruitment system, officials presented the initiatives as part of the government’s wider reform agenda focused on innovation and digital transformation.

Balochistan has long faced challenges related to governance, infrastructure and administrative capacity, with authorities increasingly exploring technology-based solutions to improve public-sector efficiency and transparency.
