SYLHET, Bangladesh: Bangladesh stand just three wickets away from a historic 2–0 series whitewash after reducing Pakistan to 316–7 at stumps on day four of the second Test, still needing 121 runs to force a draw in the series.

Taijul Islam’s four-wicket haul triggered a dramatic Pakistan collapse as the visitors lost seven wickets while chasing a daunting target of 437 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Rizwan holds firm but runs dry

Resuming their chase in the final session, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha frustrated the hosts with a crucial 100-run stand for the sixth wicket that briefly eased pressure. Rizwan brought up his 14th Test half-century, while Salman reached his 12th first-class fifty as Pakistan moved past 250.

However, the 134-run partnership was broken when Taijul removed Salman for a well-compiled 71 off 102 balls. Pakistan then lost Hasan Ali for a duck, Taijul’s fourth wicket, leaving the visitors reeling at 304–7.

At stumps, Rizwan remained unbeaten on 75, with Sajid Khan on eight.

Early setbacks set tone

Earlier, Pakistan began steadily as Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal put on 27 runs before Nahid Rana dismissed Fazal for six. Mehidy Hasan Miraz then removed Azan for 21, leaving Pakistan at 41–2.

Babar Azam (47) and captain Shan Masood (71) steadied the innings with a third-wicket stand, but both fell in quick succession alongside Saud Shakeel (6) as Taijul and Rana struck before tea.

Match context

Bangladesh were earlier bowled out for 278 in their first innings, with Litton Das smashing 126. Khurram Shahzad took 4–81. Pakistan managed only 232 in reply, a 46-run deficit, despite Babar’s 68.

Bangladesh then piled on 390 in their second innings, powered by Mushfiqur Rahim’s 137. Shahzad again impressed with four wickets.

With one day remaining, Bangladesh need three wickets for a first-ever series whitewash against Pakistan. The visitors need 121 runs and a major rearguard action to salvage a draw.
