SYLHET: Bangladesh dismissed Pakistan for 232 in the first innings of the second Test on Sunday, taking a valuable 46-run lead after a strong collective bowling display at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan resumed the final session on 206-8 in 55 overs but failed to add significant runs as Bangladesh wrapped up the innings efficiently.
Khurram Shahzad became the ninth batter to depart after tea when pacer Nahid Rana struck again, while Sajid Khan’s dismissal later completed Pakistan’s innings.
Sajid played an aggressive knock of 38 off just 28 deliveries, smashing two fours and four sixes to provide late resistance.
Nahid Rana and spinner Taijul Islam shared six wickets between them, claiming three each, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged two wickets apiece.
Early collapse
Pakistan endured an early collapse after being put under pressure by Bangladesh’s pace attack. Taskin Ahmed removed Abdullah Fazal for nine in the second over before dismissing Azan Awais for 13, reducing the visitors to 22-2 in 10 overs.
Captain Shan Masood and Babar Azam attempted to rebuild the innings with a useful stand that carried Pakistan beyond fifty.
However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke the partnership by dismissing Masood for 21 before also removing Saud Shakeel for eight as Pakistan slipped further.
Babar Azam anchored the innings with a composed 68 off 84 balls, including 10 fours, and completed his 31st Test half-century before Nahid Rana dismissed him at 142-5.
Salman Ali Agha scored 21, while Mohammad Rizwan added 13 before Taijul Islam triggered another collapse with quick wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh posted 278 after recovering from 116-6, largely due to Litton Das’s brilliant 126 off 159 deliveries, featuring 16 fours and two sixes.
Khurram Shahzad led Pakistan’s bowling with 4-81, while Mohammad Abbas took three wickets.
