ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will host a Regional Envoys’ Conference in Islamabad from May 14 to 18, to review regional and global developments as well as its bilateral relations with “brotherly countries”, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Wednesday.

The conference will focus on a range of multifaceted areas of cooperation and is expected to produce recommendations aimed at further strengthening Pakistan’s bilateral ties with participating countries, Dar said.

“The conference will review regional and global developments and Pakistan’s bilateral relations with brotherly countries, focusing on multifaceted areas,” Deputy PM Dar said in a statement posted on X.

The Deputy PM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to proactive diplomacy and sustained regional engagement.

Pakistan has continued diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington and to de-escalate the ongoing conflict through diplomacy and dialogue.

Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington on April 8 that halted the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

On April 11, Pakistan hosted high-stakes direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.

Earlier today, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi appreciated Pakistan’s constructive mediation role in the Middle East peace process.

Wang Yi expressed these views during a telephonic conversation with Deputy PM Dar.

“The two leaders exchanged in-depth views on recent regional developments and Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to facilitate engagement between Iran and the United States, aimed at promoting sustained peace and stability in the region and beyond,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his support for Pakistan’s role as a mediator between Iran and the US.

Speaking on Tuesday, Trump praised Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in helping secure a ceasefire in Iran that came into effect last month.

Trump said Islamabad had played a positive and constructive role in ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“They’re great. I think the Pakistanis have been great. The Field Marshal (Syed Asim Munir) and the Prime Minister (Shehbaz Sharif) of Pakistan have been absolutely great,” Trump said.

The Islamabad Talks in April between the US and Iran concluded without a final agreement; however, they paved the way for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran to permanently resolve the conflict.
