ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces foiled a suicide attack targeting an army post in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday. Seven civilians sustained injuries in the incident.
The foiled suicide attack attempt took place in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan, security sources said.
The sources said the terrorists attempted to target an army post using an explosives-laden vehicle. However, a unit of the Pakistan Army responded swiftly, intercepting and destroying the vehicle before it could reach its intended target.
The suicide bomber and the vehicle were neutralised at a safe distance from the post, averting what could have resulted in significant casualties.
Seven injured civilians were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation to rule out any further threats.
Since the Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has re-emerged, according to Pakistani security officials.
Authorities say thousands of TTP terrorists and their families have since relocated to eastern Afghan provinces, including Khost, Paktika, Paktia, and Kunar, where they are believed to operate with relative freedom.
Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries within their territory, particularly those associated with the TTP, but officials say these demands have not been acted upon.
Pakistan, on February 26, launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq against terrorist groups operating from across the border.
