ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is actively facilitating indirect talks between the United States and Iran through backchannel diplomacy, with proposals and responses being exchanged via Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a late-night Sunday telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, discussions focused on the evolving regional situation and Islamabad’s role in mediating indirect talks between Tehran and Washington.

The contact comes at a critical juncture as Pakistan continues to relay messages between the United States and Iran as part of ongoing backchannel diplomacy aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.

Pakistani officials have previously confirmed that indirect exchanges between the two sides are being facilitated through Islamabad, with proposals and counter-proposals under review. Both Iran and the US have also confirmed the exchange of messages through Pakistan.

Iran has conveyed a detailed peace proposal to the United States via Pakistani intermediaries, outlining conditions for de-escalation and a potential roadmap toward a negotiated settlement.

During the call, Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive role” and its continued efforts to mediate between the parties. He acknowledged Islamabad’s engagement in sustaining communication channels at a time when direct negotiations remain limited.

Dar, for his part, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting dialogue and constructive engagement. Diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving disputes and ensuring long-term regional stability, he added.

Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary in the crisis, hosting earlier rounds of indirect and direct engagements between US and Iranian officials in Islamabad, including historic talks that followed message exchanges through Pakistani leadership.
