TOKYO: Foreign Minister of Japan, Hayashi Yoshimasa, held a telephone talk with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Friday and said that Japan is concerned about recent Israeli unilateral actions that have caused an increase of tensions in the region, although he did not clarify what actions he was referring to.
Hayashi explained Japan’s approach to assisting Palestinians in achieving a two-state solution and requested cooperation from Israel.
Japan-Israel cooperation
Japan’s Foreign Minister stated that Israel respects the status quo concerning holy sites.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views on other issues, including Ukraine and East Asia.
Minister Hayashi said he would like to strengthen cooperation with Israel, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and strengthening the open and free international order based on the rule of law.
