LAHORE: Former federal minister for finance and PTI leader Shaukat Tarin on Thursday slammed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led federal government for the deepening economic crisis in Pakistan, stating that money was continuously flowing with no inflows.

Economic crisis persists despite taking heavy loans

Talking to reporters in Lahore, Tarin said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government collectively acquired loans of $19 billion during its around four-year tenure, whereas the current government has taken loans of $6.5 billion in six months but the economic crisis persisted.

Inflation rate surged to 25% from 12% since PTI left govt: Tarin

He said that when PTI left the government in March 2022, the inflation rate was 12.2% which has now surged to 25%.

He said that the International Monetary Fund’s loan tranche to Pakistan has been stalled due to the current government’s poor policies such as its attempts to artificially maneuver the dollar rate.

He added that he is predicting the current leadership would escape the country within a few weeks owing to the severe economic crisis.
