Economic Diplomacy: Pakistan Appoints 19 Envoys to Key Capitals

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has appointed 19 ambassadors and consuls general to key capitals and missions abroad, following the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Wednesday.

Deputy PM Dar said the new postings were aimed at building on two years of active international engagement of Pakistan’s incumbent government.

He expressed confidence that the envoys would represent Pakistan with “clarity of purpose and wisdom, with clear emphasis on economic diplomacy.”

In a post on X, Dar stated that the appointments would continue the momentum of Pakistan’s robust foreign policy engagement and international outreach over the past two years.

The Deputy Prime Minister also praised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomats serving abroad, describing their professionalism as central to Pakistan’s global representation.

He said the appointments reflect Islamabad’s focus on diversifying partnerships and promoting commercial and economic interests overseas.

The appointments cover major missions across Europe, Africa, Central Asia, North America, and Asia, signalling a strategic emphasis on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties in key regions.

Among the new ambassadors and high commissioners are Saadia Altaf Qazi to Bangkok, Salman Sharif to Berlin, Hasnain Yousaf to Dar-es-Salaam, Irfan Ahmed to Dushanbe, Tahir Hussain Andrabi to Geneva, Ashar Shahzad to Kampala, Mohammad Aamir Khan to Kathmandu, Chaudhry Tipu Usman to London, Dr Bilal Ahmed to Nairobi, Asim Ali Khan to Oslo, Ahmed Amjad Ali to Stockholm, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu to Tashkent, and Imran Ahmed Siddiqui to Tehran.

Furthermore, Pakistan appointed six consuls general to key cities abroad, including Ali Anser Zaidi to Frankfurt, Yasir Iqbal Butt to Guangzhou, Shahbaz Hussain to Kandahar, Siraj Ahmad Khan to Los Angeles, Awais Ahmad Khan to Mazar-e-Sharif, and Faisal Abro to Montreal.

Deputy PM Dar emphasised that the new postings would support Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic objectives, including trade promotion, investment facilitation, and bilateral cooperation.

The Deputy Prime Minister underscored that the envoys would carry forward Pakistan’s vision of “economic diplomacy” and maintain professional representation of the country abroad, ensuring that Pakistan’s strategic and economic interests are advanced in the global environment.
