ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to collaborate on Information Technology and Digital Economy.
The development reflected the resolve of the South Asian states to enhance cooperation on emerging technologies and digital transformation.
This came at the 13th Pakistan-Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission in Colombo, where the Pakistan delegation was led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan.
On the occasion, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
Discussions focused on expanding industrial cooperation and boosting bilateral trade across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), agriculture and livestock, higher education, health, and science and technology.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka share a long history of friendly diplomatic relations. The two countries cooperate in trade, defence, and regional security.
Pakistan has provided development assistance to Sri Lanka in areas such as education, health, and infrastructure. Bilateral trade between the countries is growing, with opportunities in agriculture, textiles, and pharmaceuticals.
Cultural exchanges and educational collaborations have strengthened people-to-people ties. Both nations support each other in international forums, reflecting a strong strategic partnership.
