NEW CHANDIGARH, India: A scintillating 90-run knock from Quinton de Kock set the stage for a commanding 51-run victory for South Africa over India in the second T20I, squaring the five-match series at 1-1.
The Proteas posted a daunting 213/4 before their bowlers dismantled the Indian batting line-up, bowling them out for 162.
De Kock was in devastating form from the outset, smashing 7 sixes and 5 fours in a 46-ball innings that provided the bedrock of South Africa’s imposing total.
He shared a crucial 83-run partnership with skipper Aiden Markram (29) before late fireworks from Donovan Ferreira (30* off 16) and David Miller (20* off 12) propelled the visitors past 210.
For India, spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the lone bowling bright spot with figures of 2/29.
India’s chase never found momentum, crumbling under early pressure. Marco Jansen (2/25) and Lungi Ngidi struck early blows, removing openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma cheaply. The middle order faltered, leaving the hosts reeling at 67/4.
A fighting 62 off 34 balls from Tilak Varma, adorned with 5 sixes, offered a flicker of hope. However, his dismissal in the penultimate over by Ottneil Baartman extinguished India’s last chance.
Baartman was the chief destroyer with a brilliant four-wicket haul (4/24), running through the Indian lower order as the last six wickets fell for just 44 runs.
The third T20 International between both teams will be held at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on December 14, 2025. India secured a commanding victory in the first T20I, defeating South Africa by a massive margin of 101 runs.
