ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen defence and security cooperation, a military statement said on Monday.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at Army Headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said in a statement.

The discussions reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to strengthen coordination and deepen the long-standing ties in defence and broader strategic domains.

The Egyptian foreign minister conveyed Cairo’s continued interest in scaling up cooperation “across all spheres,” according to the ISPR, with both sides underscoring the need for sustained high-level exchanges amid shifting regional security dynamics.

Pakistan’s commerce minister, Jam Kamal Khan, also held talks in Cairo on Monday with Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, President and CEO of Elsewedy Electric, one of Egypt’s leading multinational industrial groups, to explore possibilities for deeper commercial cooperation.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Press Information Department, Khan outlined the “significant growth potential” of Pakistan’s mining sector, pointing to recent policy reforms, investor-friendly regulations, and expanding opportunities for public–private partnerships.

He also emphasized prospects in Pakistan’s fast-growing technology and IT services industry, inviting Egyptian firms to pursue digital collaboration.

Elsewedy Electric “expressed satisfaction with its current investment in Pakistan” and signaled interest in expanding its engagement, the statement said. Both sides agreed to continue discussions to further strengthen industrial and investment ties.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Sunday that Islamabad will share a list of 250 business houses with Egypt to enhance bilateral commercial engagement.

Deputy PM Dar was speaking to the media alongside Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who arrived in Islamabad on Sunday for a two-day official visit.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad, Dar said he and Abdelatty had a “very, very focused discussion” today on how their nations could contribute to elevating the business-to-business upscaling of the bilateral activities, which the deputy PM termed as “surely not commensurate”, with around $300 million.
