JOHOR BAHRU: Britain’s men’s junior hockey team clinched the bronze medal at the 2025 Sultan of Johor Cup after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Pakistan in the third-place playoff at the Taman Daya Stadium on Saturday.
The British side came out firing, grabbing a two-goal lead in the first quarter. Kaden Dreysey opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a powerful penalty corner, followed by Michael Royden’s field goal in the 12th minute, putting Pakistan on the back foot early.
Pakistan responded in the second quarter with a field goal from their captain Abdul Hannan Shahid in the 23rd minute, igniting hopes of a comeback. However, despite a late drag-flick strike from Sufyan Khan, Britain held firm to claim third place in the tournament.
Later in the evening, Australia were crowned champions after a tense 2–1 win over India in the final. Ian Grobbelaar was the star for the Aussies, scoring both goals, including a crucial winner in the 59th minute. Anmol Ekka scored the lone goal for India in the second quarter.
The loss marked India’s fifth runners-up finish in the tournament, despite several chances and eight penalty corners in the match. Australia’s resilience and clinical finishing earned them their title in style.
