DOHA, Qatar: Qatar said on Tuesday it will host talks with Hamas negotiators and Turkish officials to discuss US President Donald Trump’s recently unveiled proposed peace plan for Gaza, which calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages and a phased Israeli withdrawal.

The talks come just hours after Trump presented a proposal in Washington, which calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, the group’s disarmament, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The plan also outlines the establishment of a post-war transitional authority, to be led by Trump himself.

Speaking at a press conference, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said the Hamas delegation had “promised to study it responsibly.”

He added: “There will also be another meeting today, also attended by the Turkish side, with the negotiating delegation.”

This follows a previous meeting on Monday in Doha between Hamas officials and mediators from Egypt and Qatar, where US President Donald Trump’s new Gaza proposal was presented.

“It is still too early to speak about responses,” Ansari said, “but we are truly optimistic that this plan, as we mentioned, is a comprehensive one.”

The renewed push for diplomacy comes after Qatari officials announced their readiness to work toward a ceasefire in Gaza. This stance was reinforced following an apology from Israel over an unprecedented airstrike in Doha earlier this month that targeted senior Hamas leaders.

Ansari also revealed that the US has provided Qatar with security assurances, and Israel has pledged not to carry out further attacks on Qatari territory.

“The security assurances and the commitments that were offered in the call yesterday (Monday) by President Trump and the Israeli prime minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) were very clear and were under the guarantee of the US president that Qatar will never be attacked,” Ansari said.

“We are content with the security assurances that we have received,” he said, adding there had also been “a commitment by Israel not to attack Qatar again in its capacity or otherwise.”

Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, had led efforts to broker a comprehensive ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with several rounds of diplomacy carried out in Doha.
