ISLAMABAD: China has extended substantial humanitarian aid to Pakistan’s flood-affected regions, pledging more than RMB 400 million in emergency support and dispatching relief goods, including tents, blankets, tarpaulins, and food supplies to displaced families.

According to Pakistan Today, Beijing initially announced 100 million yuan in emergency aid, and later expanded the package with an additional RMB 300 million.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society of China provided US$300,000 in cash assistance to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society separately.

The Chinese embassy in Islamabad confirmed that consignments of 25,000 tents and relief materials have already reached Karachi for distribution.

Beyond government assistance, Chinese enterprises operating in Pakistan also mobilised resources. The Nation reported that the All-Pakistan Chinese Enterprises Association (APCEA) donated more than Rs 400 million in cash and kind.

Moreover, individual companies such as Zonergy contributed food items and portable solar devices. Likewise, the China Foundation for Rural Development, supported by Tencent Charity, distributed quilts, blankets, tarpaulins, and food packages among families in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Relief measures have also been channelled through international partnerships. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said in a press release that funding from China’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund is supporting post-flood recovery in Balochistan, targeting agricultural livelihoods, small businesses, and capacity-building programs with a focus on women, youth, and marginalised communities.

Chinese aid has been directed to some of the worst-hit areas, including Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Analysts noted in China Daily that Beijing’s sustained support underscores its longstanding description of Pakistan as an “iron brother” and “all-weather partner,” particularly in times of humanitarian crisis.
