ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, died Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
Funeral arrangements include prayers after Asr at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, followed by absentee (Salat al-Ghaib) prayers after Asr in the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, and in all mosques across the nation, according to the Gulf News
A distinguished scholar and religious authority, he served as Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, and Chairman of the General Presidency of Islamic Research and Ifta.
His early life included memorisation of the Qur’an and overcoming personal loss and hardship—his father died when he was young, and he became visually impaired in his twenties.
Over decades, Sheikh Al-Sheikh delivered sermons to millions, authored numerous fatwas and religious texts, and was widely respected across the Muslim world for his knowledge and leadership, noted the Gulf News
Condolence
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow at learning of his death, saying: “Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh was a venerable scholar who devoted his life to the propagation of Qur’an and Sunnah, and whose guidance and interpretation of Shariah will continue to benefit the Ummah.” He offered condolences to the family of the late Mufti, the leadership of Saudi Arabia, and its people.
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari also paid tribute, stating that the religious and educational contributions of the Grand Mufti had left a “bright and lasting legacy.” He extended heartfelt sympathy to the Saudi leadership and citizens, and prayed that Allah grant the departed the highest place in Paradise.
