ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s javelin thrower Muhammad Yasir Sultan brought home a bronze medal at the Asian Throwing Championship on Friday with a season-best throw of 77.43 metres.
The 27-year-old athlete achieved his best performance on his final (sixth) attempt, beating his previous season-best of 76.07m, set earlier this year at the Asian Athletics Championship in May.

Yasir’s powerful last throw earned him third place in a strong field of competitors. Sri Lanka’s Pathirage Rumesh Tharanga won the gold medal with a massive throw of 82.05 metres, while Japan’s Gen Naganuma took silver with a throw of 78.60 metres.
Yasir was Pakistan’s only athlete at the event and was supported by national coach Fayyaz Bukhari.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem did not participate in the event. He is currently recovering from calf surgery and is in the rehabilitation phase. Arshad, who made headlines last year with a record-breaking 92.97-metre throw at the Paris Olympics, will also miss the upcoming Diamond League events in Poland and Switzerland.
