ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC), the country’s highest forum for security deliberations, on Monday strongly condemned Israel’s “acts of aggression” against Iran and reaffirmed Tehran’s right to self-defence in accordance with the United Nations Charter.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) in response to the escalating situation in the Middle East.
The committee noted that recent Israeli military actions sabotaged ongoing diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States, according to the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The NSC meeting reviewed the rapidly evolving regional dynamics following Israel’s strikes on Iranian territory, the PM Office statement added.
“These reckless actions have escalated tensions, threatening to ignite a wider conflict and diminishing the opportunities for dialogue and diplomacy,” the Committee said in its statement.
The NSC expressed condolences to the Iranian government and people over the loss of innocent lives and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Pakistan calls for de-escalation
Reaffirming Pakistan’s firm position, the NSC voiced deep concern over the worsening situation, especially after the June 22 attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—actions that violate international norms and potentially threaten regional stability.
Calling the Israeli strikes a violation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolutions, international law, and the UN Charter, the NSC voiced deep concern over the potential for further escalation in the region.
The NSC also reaffirmed Pakistan’s close engagement with relevant parties and endorsed its readiness to further continue efforts and initiatives aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.
The NSC called on all relevant parties to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the UN Charter.
The Committee underscored the need of adhering to international human rights and humanitarian laws.
