ISLAMABAD: Foreign players taking part in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) are reportedly looking to return to their home countries ahead of schedule, following the sudden suspension of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala.

The 58th match of the season was abandoned midway through the Punjab Kings’ innings after just 10.1 overs, shortly after Thangarasu Natarajan dismissed Priyansh Arya.

While the initial explanation cited a technical fault involving three of the four floodlight towers, subsequent reports in the Indian media have suggested the incident may be tied to the rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan.

Some outlets speculated that the blackout may have been a deliberate security measure imposed by the government, rather than a mere technical malfunction.

Emergency meeting

In response to the growing uncertainty, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has convened an emergency meeting to evaluate the situation and determine the next steps.

According to Indian media, the BCCI is placing strong emphasis on player welfare, especially that of international players, and is considering making arrangements for their early departure from India.
