ISLAMABAD/LOS ANGELES: Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty on three counts of sexual assault, including rape, all related to one accuser.

A Los Angeles court on Monday convicted Weinstein after a month-long trial and nine days of deliberations on charges against an Italian actor and model known at the trial as Jane Doe 1 – to protect her anonymity.

The jury was unable to reach verdicts and declared a Mistrial on four charges linked to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of Gavin Newsom, the California Governor and a woman known as Jane Doe 2. Meanwhile, Weinstein was cleared of allegations by a massage therapist, Jane Doe 3, who accused him of trapping and sexually assaulting her in a hotel bathroom in 2010.

The 70-year-old film mogul, who is already two years into a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault, could face up to 24 years in prison in California on the latest conviction.

Ex-Hollywood producer a habitual rapist?

More than 80 women, including some of the most renowned Hollywood celebrities, have come forward with accusations of sexual assault and misconduct – in a time-period spanning several decades – against the Oscar-winning producer.

His conviction in New York in 2020, currently under appeal by Weinstein, was a landmark moment for the #MeToo movement, which had been highlighting the issue of harassment and sexual assault in the US film industry for several years.

During the trials, he was found to have used his influence to lure women into private meetings before sexually assaulting them.
