NEW YORK, USA: China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, expressed strong support for Lebanon and condemned the recent violence in the region, particularly Israel’s airstrikes, during a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib in New York.

Wang stated that China “firmly opposes indiscriminate attacks against civilians” and emphasized Beijing’s focus on maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.

The Israeli airstrikes, which took place on Monday, resulted in 492 deaths, including women and children, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. Wang also referred to last week’s blasts of communication devices across Lebanon, which killed 39 people and injured almost 3,000. He condemned such attacks, stating that “armed force does not represent truth” and that violence would only lead to further humanitarian disasters.

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, echoed Wang’s sentiments, condemning actions that harm innocent civilians and calling for immediate de-escalation of the conflict. China has urged relevant parties to prevent further regional tensions and has advocated for peace talks to resolve the crisis.

Beijing has consistently maintained its position on supporting peace efforts, as seen in its recent attempts to broker unity among Palestinian factions. China also urged its citizens to leave Israel as tensions between Israel and Lebanon grew.
