Pakistan Finance Minister, Finland Envoy Discuss Bilateral Ties

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Finland to Pakistan Hannu Ripatti met with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad on Wednesday and discussed bilateral ties.

The Finance Minister during the meeting shared updates on Pakistan’s economic performance, highlighting the increase in tax collection, enhanced remittances and foreign exchange reserves exceeding nine billion dollars.

He stressed the positive evaluation from global credit rating agencies, which reflects the stability of Pakistan’s economic environment.

The Minister also talked about the successful conclusion of the 9-month SBA with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the recently finalized staff-level agreement for a 37-month IMF program.

Additionally, the Minister highlighted ongoing programs, including end-to-end digitization in the Federal Board of Revenue to broaden the tax base, restructuring of state-owned enterprises, reforms in the energy sector and focus on export-led growth. These initiatives are aimed at boosting economic stability and promoting long-term growth.

The Finnish Ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s economic reforms and noted the improved fiscal situation of Finnish companies operating in Pakistan.

The Minister thanked Finland for its continued support in the renewal of Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, which benefits the country’s export sector.

The meeting underscored the strong bilateral ties between the two countries and the shared commitment to fostering economic stability and growth.
