ISLAMABAD: Talks focusing on saving the world’s lifeforms and the interlinked ecosystem began here under the auspices of the UN. These deliberations are described as the last best chance to prevent irreparable devastation by human actions.
In order to agree on a 10-year roadmap, global participants are attending the meeting from December 7-19.
The talks are being chaired by China’s ecology and environment minister Huang Runqiu, who described the meeting as a way to bring about harmony from the current disharmony by agreeing on a peace deal with nature to stem the endless destruction.
UNEP seeks roadmap for protecting biodiversity Ecosystem
Inger Andersen, who is the United Nations Environment Program head, called on negotiators to formulate a concrete roadmap for protecting the planet’s biodiversity. Andersen added that all stakeholders talk about compromise but progress is being made very slowly.
Continuing, Andersen stressed humans the world over were betraying nature and biodiversity, which were mankind’s true friends.
COP 15 may see parties backing out from positive deal
The COP 15’s opening follows on the heels of several rounds of dialogue, however, not much progress was being made raising fears that a number of parties will back out from a positive deal.
Speaking to newspersons, World Wildlife Fund’s international advocacy head Bernadette Fischler Hooper said that this was a chance for all to save the planet’s system of life support. ecosystem – AFP/APP
