MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday received top officials to discuss domestic security as the Kremlin said the latest drone attacks by Ukraine presented a danger to the country.

Earlier, Kremlin authorities said that an airfield in Kursk region was hit by a drone attack, a day after Russia blamed Ukraine for drone attacks at 2 other airfields.

Last day’s attacks were highly unusual as both airfields are hundreds of kilometers away from the border of Ukraine.

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian president, told reporters that authorities were taking necessary steps to protect Russia from Kyiv’s attacks.

He said that “Ukraine has openly declared to continue such terrorist attacks is a very dangerous factor”.

The Kursk governor Roman Strarovoyt said in a statement that an oil storage tanker caught fire after the drone attack near a local airfield. The strike did not harm anyone and the governor left it unspecified from where the drone came.

Russian defence ministry said on Monday that Kyiv attempted to attack Engels airfield in the Saratov region and the Dyagilevo airfield in the central Ryazan with Made-in-Soviet drones.

The ministry said that these two attacks killed 3 soldiers and injured 4 others. It did not provide further details. Two planes were also damaged.
