Japan Provides $4.196 Million for Pakistan’s Flood-affected Families

ISLAMABAD: Japan has provided 4.196 million US dollars to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to extend its humanitarian services in Pakistan’s flood-hit areas and improve hygiene, sanitation, and water infrastructure in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. 

A ceremony was held in Islamabad here on Friday to acknowledge the Japanese government for its generous support for the children in Pakistan.

Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mitsuhiro Wada, said, “In partnership with UNICEF, Japan has successfully supported host communities and Afghan refugees in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces in water, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition. This was aimed to ensure the most vulnerable have access to hygiene facilities, nutrition supplements, and safe water.

Japan Ready to Offer Emergency Support to Flood Affectees

In response to the devastating floods in Pakistan, Japan stands ready to offer emergency support to the flood affectees by providing hygiene items and clean water.”

The funds provided by Japan are being used to ensure the availability of adequate sanitation, safe drinking water, and hygiene kits, create awareness about hygiene, and scan the nutritional status of women and children in refugee camps and host communities, the ambassador added. 

Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, said, “Government of Pakistan is committed to ensure supporting the flood victims with the support and assistance of the world community.”

“Japan has always been at the forefront in supporting Pakistan, gratefully acknowledged by the people of Pakistan. UNICEF Pakistan is also at the forefront in supporting vulnerable communities.”
