KABUL, Afghanistan: Over recent days, resistance attacks against the Taliban regime have intensified and spread across Kabul, Kunar, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Faryab, Ghor, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Laghman and Herat provinces.
Anti-Taliban armed groups, including Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), Afghanistan United Front (AUF), National Resistance Front (NRF), Afghanistan Green Trend and other resistance groups have targeted Taliban regime personnel, checkpoints, military installations and security positions across multiple provinces. These attacks demonstrated widening pressure on Taliban regime security structures across Afghanistan.
On 28 August, Afghanistan Freedom Front carried out its first reported guerrilla operation in Ghazni province, killing Mullah Omar Sadiq, deputy commander of Taliban Unit 06, and seizing a small weapon and a pistol.
In Badakhshan’s Zebak district, Afghanistan Freedom Front forces pushed back freshly deployed Taliban regime personnel following several hours of heavy fighting after the Taliban regime sent additional forces from Kabul.
Afghanistan Green Trend targeted the Taliban regime’s defence ministry Ranger unit in Laghman on 28 August, with nine Taliban regime personnel killed according to information attributed to Taliban police documents.
The National Resistance Front targeted the Taliban regime’s Al-Farouq Corps in Herat, wounding its intelligence commander.

The Afghanistan United Front carried out multiple operations on 30 August, targeting Taliban regime positions in Helmand and killing three Taliban regime personnel while seizing weapons and ammunition.
Another Afghanistan United Front attack in Now Zad killed six Taliban regime personnel and resulted in the seizure of 5 Kalashnikovs, 1 RPG launcher, 1 grenade launcher and other equipment. The Afghanistan United Front also targeted a Taliban regime police district in Asadabad, Kunar, killing two regime personnel.
Further Afghanistan United Front operations targeted Taliban regime intelligence in Jalalabad, a checkpoint along the Faryab-Ghor highway and a checkpoint in Kandahar, killing Taliban regime personnel and seizing 2 M16 rifles and 1 Kalashnikov.
Across these operations, resistance groups claim 27 Taliban personnel killed and four wounded.

The geographic spread from northern Badakhshan and Faryab to southern Kandahar and Helmand, and from Kabul and Nangarhar to western Herat, reflects mounting pressure on Taliban regime security structures and growing armed opposition to the Taliban regime’s coercive rule.
Analysts have cited growing public support for anti-Taliban groups and criticism of Taliban rule as factors behind the expansion of these attacks.
Another notable development is that attacks previously dominated by guerrilla tactics have increasingly shifted towards direct front-line confrontation.
Badakhshan, particularly the districts of Zebak, Yaftal, Kishm and Yamgan, has become one of the main centres of the fighting.
The increase in opposition groups’ attacks comes as the Taliban regime, since returning to power in 2021, has repeatedly claimed to have established security throughout Afghanistan.
Anti-Taliban fronts, however, say they will continue their armed campaign and have expanded operations to several provinces in recent months.
