LOS ANGELES: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been ordered to stop spending or soliciting for their Archewell Foundation after being declared illegal by the California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers.
Western media on Monday reported that the Attorney General of California Rob Bonta has issued a notice on behalf of the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers to the Archewell Foundation.
According to the document obtained by the media, the organization is listed as illegal with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for failing to submit the required annual report and renewal fees.
It said an organization that is listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is barred from engaging in conduct for which registration is required, including disbursing charitable funds.
The organization may also be subject to penalties and its registration may be revoked or suspended by the Registry.
A source said the Archewell Foundation filed its report on time, but a check that was sent was never received by the Registry of Charities. The foundation only became aware of this matter when the delinquency notice was issued.
A new check later was sent by mail, and the Archewell Foundation expects the matter to be resolved quickly within the next seven business days.
Prince Harry and Meghan earlier said Archewell was inspired by the Greek word “arche,” meaning “source of action”, and named their 5-year-old son, Prince Archie.
