ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will announce new set of coaches for white and red ball formats for the national cricket team by the end of April, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources.

A PCB official confirmed to foreign media outlet that besides Australia’s Jason Gillispie and South Africa’s Gary Kirsten, the board had received applications from a couple of reputed coaches by the April 15 deadline.

The official said that while the PCB is interested in Gillispie and Kirsten, the new applicants are also in the fray.

According to the source, the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi has sought long-term appointments of coaches through a due process and all commitments would be met by the board.

The last time the Board followed due process in appointing coaches was in 2019 when it named Misbah-ul-Haq as the head coach and chief selector of the national side. Since then, all appointments have either been made on a consultancy or ad hoc basis.

Another source in the PCB said that in Kirsten and Gillispie’s case, though the Board held direct negotiations with them, and they remain top candidates to be appointed head coaches, yet they were told to apply through due process by the deadline.

Furthermore, the deadline for candidates for assistant coaches positions with the PCB ended today (April 20).
