PESHAWAR: An official of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan said on Sunday that 6,600 Afghan migrants were repatriated to their country.
The official said that around 5,287 migrants were sent back from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 129 from Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad, around 1,150 from Punjab and about 34 from Azad Kashmir.
He said that around 513 illegal Afghan migrants were also sent back to Afghanistan through Peshawar, Torkham border.
6,600 Afghan Migrants Repatriated
The official added a total of 268,552 Afghans had been deported so far from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa via Torkham, around 3703 through Angoor Adda, and around 698 through Kharlachi border crossings.
According to the recent survey by the local police and district administration, there were about 676 illegal Afghans in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, including 141 women, 354 children and 172 men.
Around 38 families comprising 60 women, 68 men, and 144 children were living in Kurram district of KP, and 35 families including 32 women, 35 men, and 77 children in Khyber district of the province.
About 16 families were residing at Ghazi, Haripur and Khanpur in Haripur district of KP, and seven families at Dargai in Malakand district.
