MANILA: An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale struck near the coast of the southern Philippines on early Monday, said the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake hit just before 4:00 am local time. It occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers on Mindanao Island.

Earlier two people were killed in a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Philippines on Saturday.
The Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded over 500 aftershocks and issued cautionary statements as people cautiously resumed their daily activities.
While the tsunami alert was lifted, Phivolcs stressed the importance of residents in vulnerable communities following guidance from local authorities.

Earthquakes are frequent in the Philippines due to its location along the “Ring of Fire,” a volcanic belt encircling the Pacific Ocean known for seismic activity.
