BANGALORE: The highly crucial Pakistan vs New Zealand match in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 may be affected by the rain, but the M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s ground staff remains confident of preventing outfield waterlogging.
Weather forecast agencies have indicated that Bangalore may experience rain on Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm, with a 50% chance, which could impact the second half of the match as it’s scheduled to begin at 10:30 am local time.
However, the ground staff has assured that the stadium will be ready for play within 20 minutes after the rain stops. They credit their “SubAir System” for this capability, which not only prevents waterlogging in the outfield but also drains water 36 times faster than natural drainage.
The official website of the SubAir System explains, “The SubAir System automatically activates as soon as it starts raining, preventing water buildup on the outfield. It rapidly removes standing water, virtually eliminating the need for extended game delays or cancellations due to wet outfield conditions.”
An official associated with the SubAir System mentioned that “The SubAir System automatically activates as soon as it starts raining, preventing water buildup on the outfield. It begins sucking out water at a rate of over 10,000 liters a minute as soon as the rain starts. The suction system is activated through signals from the remote sensors embedded in the field,” as was revealed at the time of its installation at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
