RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday called upon the youth to pursue their goals with dedication and devotion in their lives.
The prime minister was addressing an award giving ceremony of 67th Army Welfare Trust (AWT) National Hockey Championship at the Lt Gen Ishfaque Nadeem Hockey Stadium in Rawalpindi.
He said that past glory of the country in hockey could be achieved through joint efforts by all the stakeholders, including the private sector.
He strongly believed if 240 million population of Pakistan whose 60 percent consisted of the youth decided to achieve prominence among the nations, they could easily achieve that.
“Consistent efforts, dedication and passion are the ingredients that can open doors to success, ” he added.
Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar further said that countries were known for their notable actions in the field of culture and knowledge, and Pakistan was once ranked high in the game of hockey.
Private sector urged to play part for revival of hockey
Terming the efforts of the AWT and PHF and arrangements for the tournament outstanding, he said all the stakeholders and private sector should come forward and play their part for the revival of national game.
The prime minister expressing his pleasure over the company of former Olympians and hockey stars, said that the occasion had revived his nostalgic feelings about the national game.
He urged the players to follow the role models in the field of hockey who had brought glories to the country.
Prime Minister Kakar went on to say that games like hockey, squash and cricket had promoted the soft image of Pakistan across the world.
He lauded the idea of arranging Pakistan Hockey League adding that it would help in the revival of the game.

At the end, he distributed prizes and medals among the winning team of MPCL that defeated WAPDA in the final match through penalty shootouts.
Earlier, AWT Managing Director Lt. Gen (retd) Naveed Mukhtar highlighted the functioning of the Trust and its support to the national tournament. He said that about 20 teams had taken part in the event.
He asked all the stakeholders to come forward and support such like efforts.
He added that AWT would sponsor national hockey championship in the next three years.
